![]() Enough room for all the crafting machines and then some. Plenty of room above for more biome block chests. 3 Biome Storage Chests (painted green on the far right of the brown chest row) 23 Meteorite Chests for vanity stuff (mounts, statues, costumes, etc) There are only 40 pictured, but I ran out of gold chests and haven't found any more yet. 46 Golden Chests for Armor/Weapons (the one painted red is for accessory combinations, like Ankh Charm items). Now, as you can see from this screenshot, it has: If you want more/better screenshots of such a setup, lemme know. I'm not sure you can really get any more compact and fast than this. I have never run out of room with this type of setup, ever. The second ends up being Easymode Materials, the Third Hardmode Ores&Bars, the Fourth being Hardmode Materials (souls, etc), the 5th is usually a chest for fishing crap, the 6th is usually for mechanical stuff, etc. The first chest I tend to make Easymode Ore, Bars, and Gems. I've found that unless you go out of your way to get multiple stacks of materials, 11 chests is more than enough to store all the crafting materials you could ever want. If both doors were made like the one next to the wizard, the only enemies that could hurt the NPCs would be ghosts, bosses and goblin wizards. The Dryad is protected by a trapdoor, and the door on the right (next to the wizard) is zombie-proof, the other door could be made zombie-proof in a similar way. You can run right through the crafting room with no trouble and since there are no NPCs living there, the presence of enemies doesn't matter. For Biome Blocks, you can quickly drop down (it takes like 3 seconds). Anytime you return from a trip, just walk through your base clicking the "Quick Stack to Chest" button and you'll dump everything except Weapons, Accessories, Armor, and Biome Blocks. There are 22 Golden Chests (how many slots does one chest have, again?) for storing armor, 11 for crafting materials, and 11 for biome blocks, 1 for ingredients, 1 for potions, and 1 chest for seeds next to the planters that's just slightly off-screen. The hole next to the ivy chest should be filled with water (I just never got around to it at the time this screenshot was taken). The brown chests hold crafting materials, and are within the range to open and use crafting machines, the golden chests are for storing weapons, armor, and accessories, the blue chests are for biome blocks, the Ivy & Glass Chest is within Quick Stack range of standing on the ground and they hold Ingredients and Potions respectively (and there's an alchemy station there to make potions). The NPCs are above the screenshot in little flats, and since only a couple NPCs are ever used at any frequency, you can just have those two NPCs near the two entrances. I've found in various playthroughs, I don't think it can possibly get any more compact than this. is important as well but lets stick to the core features of a base: Spawn Location, Crafting, NPC flat, Storage. ![]() some more? If you haven't build a compact base so far but you would like to, here are some links with information about housing and some tricks:Ī beautiful look, growing plants, fishing places. storage which you can (also) quick access from outside no torches or other stuff that gets destroyed at right click ![]() a fixed distinct place for each NPC (so you don't need to search them) a high amount of chests, where you can use quick stack (from one postiion (near spawn/bed location)) not sensitive to small errors at building following some kind of rules, easy to remember) efficient (short ways to NPC's, chests and crafting stations, reach many at the same time. a crystal ball, bewitching table, ammo box and sharpening station to buff up and prepare for outside a flat for each NPC: (excluding Santa, Truffle but would be good too) each type of crafting station: (excluding Liquid-stuff but would be good too) Which properties should a compact base have?: I'm interested in your efficient, compact, easy to build base structure. I would like to use this thread to show off solutions how to overcome these problems. I recently read Breeze thread about issues at base construction.
